Motor Skill Learning in Young Children Born Preterm
The primary hypothesis of this proposal is that delays in motor development in preterm children are attributed to impaired motor learning. We also hypothesize that in addition to problems with unimanual coordination, bimanual coordination is affected in preterm children based on two findings. First, CC volume and integrity are reduced in preterm infants and adolescents, and are associated with poor motor development. Second, hand preference (and related lateralization of motor cortical systems) is thought to be important for optimal unimanual and bimanual movement.
